Employment Attorney R. Scott Oswald Speaks on Maximizing Damages at Trial at MELA Conference

On December 7, 2012, R. Scott Oswald, employment attorney and managing principal of The Employment Law Group® law firm, participated as a speaker at the Eighth Annual Maryland Employment Lawyers Association (MELA) Conference.  Mr. Oswald presented on “Maximizing Damages at Trial: Practice Pointers from Successful Trial Attorneys”. Other presenters on the panel included attorneys Jerry R. Goldstein and Josh Bowers.

The presentation included a review of legal and equitable relief available in employment litigation. Topics included the measurement and calculation of backpay, as well as the burden on employees and employers in defending against back pay claims; compensatory damages such as emotional distress, mental anguish, loss of enjoyment of life, future loss, and inconvenience; and finally, types of equitable relief including ‘front pay’, injunctive relief, as well as attorney fees and costs.

Mr. Oswald currently serves as the president of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (MWELA) and will be speaking on “Whistleblower Protections for Human Resources Professionals” at the Professionals in Human Resources Association’s (PIHRA) Legal Update 2013 series in California in January 2013.
