Law360 Quotes David Scher on Broader Role for Sen. McCaskill

Law360 highlighted the views of David Scher, principal of The Employment Law Group® law firm, in its analysis of a new Senate subcommittee led by Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) .

Mr. Scher said that Sen. McCaskill, a former prosecutor, would help build the Subcommittee on Financial and Contracting Oversight (FCO) into a safe and logical place for whistleblowers to report wrongdoing by federal contractors.

“This is clearly her bailiwick and her pet,” Mr. Scher said in the article, which was titled “New Post Empowers Contract Fraud’s Biggest Senate Foe.”

Sen. McCaskill spent much of her first term in the Sentae fighting contract fraud on a subcommittee with limited power. The FCO, by contrast, monitors spending at every federal agency and department.

“I’m putting every federal agency on notice — any employee or contractor who wastes taxpayer money, or acts inappropriately on the taxpayer dime, will have this committee to answer to,” said Sen. McCaskill.

“The authority that McCaskill has here will have an effect on whistleblowers,” Mr. Scher said. “This increased oversight by Sen. McCaskill is going to dramatically curtail contractor misconduct, and represents an effort by the government to spend money more wisely.”
