In Brief

Time spent by employees waiting for and undergoing security screenings before leaving the workplace is not compensable under FLSA.

What Happened in Court

Integrity required its warehouse employees to undergo antitheft security screening before leaving the warehouse. Integrity’s employees, led by Jesse Busk, filed a lawsuit under the FLSA seeking payment for the time spent undergoing these screenings. After the District Court granted summary judgment in favor of Integrity, the Supreme Court affirmed and held that time spent by employees waiting for and undergoing security screenings before leaving the workplace is not compensable under FLSA.
